FAQ's

A pendant light is a standalone light fixture that hangs from the ceiling, usually suspended by a cord, chain, or metal rod. They act as functional focal points, popular for providing targeted task lighting over kitchen islands or adding ambient styling to dining rooms.

Yes. Most cord-hung pendant lights can be easily adjusted to your desired height during installation by your electrician. If your fixture uses a rigid metal rod, look for models that include multiple interlocking downrods of varying lengths for customisable height options.

Yes, most pendant lighting can be made dimmable. You just need to pair a compatible dimmable LED bulb with a wall dimmer switch. Always check the product specifications to confirm the pendant supports dimming capabilities.

Yes. Pendant lights hung by a cord or chain naturally adjust to sloped ceilings thanks to gravity. However, if the fixture uses a rigid metal rod, we recommend using a wedge at the base to ensure the pendant hangs straight.

Yes. Replacing or installing mains-wired pendant lights requires a licensed electrician in New Zealand. Professional installation ensures your lighting meets strict local safety standards, protects your home insurance, and secures your warranty.

It depends on the size of your dining table, a single pendant light works best over round, square, or smaller rectangular tables (under 1.8m / 6ft long). Multiple pendant lights provide even light across longer rectangular or oval tables (1.8m+ long).

Single Pendant Light

  • Size: Choose a pendant light that is 1/2 to 2/3 the width / diameter of your table.

  • Placement: Centre the fixture directly over the midpoint of the table.

Multiple Pendant Lights

  • Size: Choose smaller pendant lights so the arrangement doesn't look crowded, 1/3 to 1/2 the width of the table for each individual shade.

  • Edge Clearance: Ensure the outermost edges of the end pendants sit at least 15cm to 30cm inside the outer edges of the table.

  • How to Space Multiple Pendants:

1. Determine fixture count: 2 Pendants - Best for tables 1.8m to 2.4m long.

3 Pendants - Best for tables 2.4m to 3m long.

2. Calculate spacing: Table length ÷ (number of pendants + 1)

e.g. For a 240cm table with 3 pendants: 240 ÷ 4 = 60cm apart from centre-to-centre.

Gap distance: Aim for roughly 60cm to 75cm of open space between each shade.

For standard 2.4m ceilings, position the bottom of the shade 75cm to 90cm above the tabletop. This keeps clear sightlines across the table while providing focused, comfortable lighting. For higher ceilings (2.7m+), add roughly 7.5cm of hanging height for every extra 30cm of ceiling height. Always sit at the table to test the height before final installation so the shade doesn't block your view or cause glare.

A cluster pendant light features multiple cords and shades gathering together from a single ceiling canopy. This design creates a dramatic, eye-catching focal point, making it an ideal choice for high-ceiling entryways, stairwells, or as a modern statement piece over a dining table.
